Jesus once said ” no greater love has anyone than he lays down his life for his friends.”
Do you understand that? In todays world of quick solutions and floods of information and speed of life, do we really know what it means to lay down our own lives for a friend? Sure go have a cup of coffee or spend time doing a braai, but that’s all the social stuff, nope, I am talking about when the times are really tough and its not all smiles and laughter. I am talking about when your life needs you and you get this gut feel that you should be at your friend or your spouses side because something is not right. That’s when we lay down our lives for a friend. It does not suite our agenda and does not gain anything for us.
God Himself shows us how this is done when He knowingly sends His only son to us, knowing full well that we will slaughter His son and reject God Himself. Inspire of knowing this, His love for us so over shadows this that He lays down His own life by sending His only son!
There is a lesson there in love that we still do not understand. Something we can understand, but we do not lay down our lives to understand that kind of love that lays its life down for us.
“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:16-17
